SUFFOLK -- A Suffolk teen has been charged with multiple felonies after stealing a firearm, shooting into an occupied residence and firing a shot at police, authorities said Monday.

According to police, the 17-year-old vandalized his grandfather’s residence and stole a handgun and ammunition.

Police said the teen also shot into a residence in the 1400 block of Holland Road.

Police say the juvenile fired a single shot at police from the top of a building and an officer fired one round back at the suspect.

The SWAT team and a negotiator were called and the suspect surrendered to police around 2:15 a.m.

A portion of Holland Road and Route 58 were briefly closed during the standoff.

The teen was charged with grand larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, reckless handling of a firearm, felony vandalism, use of a firearm committing a felony, nine counts of maliciously discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, and attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer.

The teen is currently being held at the Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake.
