SUFFOLK-- A student has been suspended for bringing a kitchen knife to school.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Turlington Woods Elementary.  Staff reported that they smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the boys’ locker room in the gym.

The principal brought students from the locker room into the library to be searched.  One of the students said that he wasn’t going to be searched and the principal had him removed from the library and taken to the front office by a male teacher.

The search of the students turned up nothing and the principal then went to the front office to search the student  there.

While searching the student's book bag, the principal was told by the student that he had a knife in the bag.

The principal found a 7 1/2" black handled kitchen knife in the zippered part of the bag. The knife was never displayed or used in a threatening manner.

The knife was turned over to the School's resource officer and the student’s father was contacted.
