SUFFOLK--The fire department responded to two separate residential fires within an hour of each other on Thursday evening.
The first happened in the 400 block of Bute Street in the Boston community. The call came in at 5:42 p.m. and when fire units arrived they found a home fully engulfed in flames.
Neighbors told firefighters they thought someone was inside but after a search, it was found that two occupants had escaped and another occupant had jumped from a second story window.
The victim who jumped was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening..
A total of four adults were displaced in the fire and were being assisted by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The second fire happened at the Colander Bishop Apartments on Brook Avenue.
Firefighter received the call around 7:07 p.m and when they arrived they found fire coming from an attic on one of the end units.
The fire affected three apartments. All of the residents got out safely. There were no injuries.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes.
Two adults and two children were displaced and were being assisted by the Red Cross.
The fire is under investigation.
