SUFFOLK--Several homes in Suffolk were evacuated Wednesday morning after a construction crew hit a gas line.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Jordan Circle and Godwin Boulevard in the Elephant’s Fork area.

Sewer repairs were being made and crews struck an unmarked gas line, city spokeswoman Diana Klink told WVEC.com.

The leak was capped by 1:30 p.m. and the people evacuated from the three homes were allowed to return.
