SUFFOLK - Security is on the mind of event planners in Hampton Roads following the bombings at the Boston Marathon.
Deanie Eldridge is the executive director for the American Diabetes Association. He says the safety and security of the cyclists and volunteers for the upcoming Tour De Cure race in Suffolk on Saturday is a priority.
“I think everyone has thought about (security) and we have had a specific conversation with the City of Suffolk and with the police department,” says Eldridge.
Police spokesperson Diana Klink said the department would not disclose any information about their presence, but Eldridge says there will be police support at the festival site and along the course.
This year participants will receive blue and yellow ribbons, the colors of the Boston Marathon, to show support for those impacted by the bombings.
