SUFFOLK-- Two Suffolk police officers are being called heros after they rescued five people from a home that had caught fire Friday morning.
The officers were on patrol around 8 a.m. when they smelled smoke on Lee Street. They discovered flames coming from underneath a house on Lee Street and noticed the flames had started to shoot up the wall.
The officers banged on the doors to alert two elderly residents who lived in the downstairs portion of the home and then went upstairs and helped rescue three children, ages 7 months, 2, and 7 years old living upstairs.
Crews were on the scene within minutes and were able to quickly put the fire out.
The house sustained minimal damage. Since the power had to be disconnected, the Red Cross is assisting the residents.
No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
