UPDATE: Tuesday afternoon officials confirmed Richardson has also been charged in connection to a robbery in Suffolk.

FRANKLIN-A Portsmouth man was arrested early Tuesday for robberies in Portsmouth and he's also charged with attempted robbery of two Franklin grocery stores.

Michael Anthony Richardson was arrested at a hotel on Broad Street after an officer spotted a car that matched the description of one used in the July 18 robbery of a Food Lion.  

Portsmouth Police have charged him with robbing that store and a Farm Fresh and failure to register as a sex offender.

In Franklin, police told WVEC.com Tuesday they've charged Richardson with attempted robbery of the Food Lion and Farm Fresh stores on Armory Drive on Friday, July 19.

In Suffolk, the PC Express Solutions was robbed on July 19 and the Walmart on College Dr. was robbed on Saturday, said city spokeswoman Debbie George.
