SUFFOLK -- The Red Cross is assisting a family of nine after a fire heavily damaged their home early Saturday morning.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the Police Department were alerted to structure fire in the 600 block of Brook Avenue around 4 a.m.
Several crews responded to the scene and were able to contain the flames to the kitchen area of the single story home.
Three adults and six children were displaced by the fire and were not injured, but one firefighter suffered a minor cut to his hand. He was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment.
Investigators have determined the fire was accidental, but did not release any additional details.
