NORFOLK- There's really only one word to describe the weather - hot!

A heat advisory is in effect through 6:00 p.m. for the Eastern Shore, Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, the Peninsula, and southeast Virginia west of Suffolk.

"Factor in increasing humidity and it will feel warmer than 105° in several locations," says 13News Now Meteorologist Craig Moeller.

Last year, there were 21 heat-related deaths in Virginia, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. State health officials say summer sunlight exposure is greatest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Across Hampton Roads, you can take your refillable water bottle to any participating TapIt business to get a free refill. To check locations where you live or shop, click here. There are locations in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk, Va. Beach and Williamsburg.

In Hampton, City libraries and community centers will be open for anyone who needs to get out of the heat.   Several churches are offering lunch and water, notes City spokesman Frederick Gaskins.   Beginning at 5:00 p.m., H.E.L.P., Inc. will provide water to the homeless through its mobile bus unit, and the city is prepared to open a dedicated cooling site if needed.

Health officials remind you to avoid strenuous work outdoors if you can.  If you can't, try to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks.  Click here for more tips from OSHA.

That's all good advice because it won't cool off for several days. "Tomorrow and Saturday may be a bit hotter," Moeller forecasts.

Finding ways to beat the heat is a necessity for not only guests and employees at Busch Gardens, but the park's many animals must keep cool too.

According to Jay Tacey, Busch Gardens' zoological manager, a favorite method for keeping the park's animals cool is providing frozen treats.
