SUFFOLK - Police say they know who shot a man late Wednesday night in Suffolk.

Authorities are looking for 34-year-old Marvin Vasti Jacobs. They say he shot 31-year-old Melvin Harden during an argument on Beech Street around 11:30 p.m.

Soon after, police and the SWAT team were called to a house on Oak Street, about a block from the shooting, and went into the house while others searched the neighborhood.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink said that is Jacobs' home.   Officers left the home around 3:30 a.m.

Shalecia Simmons lives in the area.  She says the violence terrifies her.

"I have a lot of family around Suffolk and everywhere you turn," said Simmons. "I even have a son and you never know when a random person can come up, rob you, shoot you, over an argument, just pull out a gun you just never know. "

Harden is hospitalized and listed in good condition, police said.

Jacobs is about 6’ tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds. He's wanted on charges of Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Discharge Firearm in Public Place, Use or Display Firearm in Commission of Felony, Shooting in Commission of Felony, and Malicious Wounding.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
