SUFFOLK-A man died early Wednesday when his car went off the road in Suffolk and went into the water.
He called police just before 6:00 a.m. but said he didn't know where he was. Authorities narrowed down his location after getting a ping from a cell phone tower, said City spokeswoman Diana Klink.
Suffolk Police Department, Virginia State Police, Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department and Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office began searching for the man.
Suffolk Police saw tire tracks going off South Quay Road, off Route 58, and into a small pond. A dive team found the body inside the car, Klink stated.
The driver, who hasn't been identified, was dead when rescuers arrived.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to veer off the road.
This is the second deadly crash where a vehicle has gone off the road and into water in Suffolk in less than a day.
