SUFFOLK--The city of Suffolk has negotiated an agreement with HRT to keep four bus lines operating in the city through the end of the year.
Previous plans called for the elimination of Route 72 and Route 73 effective June 30th and transit routes 71 and 74 on December 31st.
The new agreement with HRT allows for all routes to continue operating from July 1st until December 31st. The cost associated with the extension is being covered by the savings derived on the City's pro-rated administrative fee.
Under the previous agreement the City would have still been contractually obligated to pay HRT its share of administrative costs for the remaining of the fiscal year.
The city continues to explore identifying and securing alternative transit to begin January 1, 2012.
