SUFFOLK--An early morning house fire is under investigation.
Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, firefighters battled a blaze on Wilson street in the Lee-Jackson neighborhood. Officials say the flames spread from the first floor to the second floor near the back of the house.
Crews were able to rescue the renters, a husband and wife that were downstairs in a bedroom. Firemen were also able to save the couple's dog, who was on the porch at the time of the fire.
Extra crews were called in to help battle the flames. A Suffolk spokesperson says that no one was injured when they were containing the fire.
The home has substantial damage. The American Red Cross is assisting the couple that was living at the residence.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
