SUFFOLK -- A car fire ended up spreading, destroying a mobile home that was next to it Saturday.
The fire started a little after 5:30 a.m. in Bullock's Mobile Home Park, located in the 3800 block of Pughsville Road.
Emergency crews arrived eight minutes after emergency dispatchers got the first call about the fire. Those crews found the car fully engulfed. The flames spread to a nearby trailer.
"I called 9-1-1, and they responded very quickly," Lawrence Wellons told 13News Now.
Wellons, who lives across the street from where the fire was, recorded what he saw.
"I heard a pop, and I went outside and saw the car on fire. No one lives there, and, then, the trailer caught on fire."
"My concern was that it would spread, because you can tell we are close," said Carla Smith. "It's scary, scary to think that your whole house and everyone in it can go up in flames that quick."
Firefighters had things under control and out within 12 minutes.
The car was a total loss. Neighbors said the mobile home, which had extensive damage, was new. It had been in the park for about a month. No one lived there, and it was for sale.
The fire marshal is trying to figure out exactly how the fire started.
