SUFFOLK -- Police are searching for the person who shot someone on Wellons Street Saturday night.
Emergency dispatchers got a call about gunfire in the 300 block of Wellons at about 10:40 p.m. While officers were on the way there, dispatchers got a second call about a person lying in the street with a possible gun shot wound.
Police said the victim was 20-year-old Trovias Mayfield of Suffolk.
"I just saw him laying there with blood flowing under him like everywhere," said a friend of Mayfield, who asked to remain anonymous. "I thought he was dead."
Mayfield was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital and then airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He had surgery and is considered to be in stable condition.
