SUFFOLK (AP) -- A dozen inmates went to the hospital after a jail van they were riding in hit a tree in Suffolk.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. Monday.
Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink tells media outlets that the van ran up on a curb and hit the tree.
Klink says the inmates complained of minor back, neck and shoulder pain after the accident. They were taken to a local hospital to be checked out. The driver and a guard weren't injured.
The van was transporting the inmates from the Western Tidewater Regional Jail to the Mills E. Godwin Jr. Courts Building in Suffolk.
The accident remains under investigation.
