PORTSMOUTH -- A girl was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike at Lincoln Street and Des Moines Avenue in Portsmouth on Monday night.

Devon Brown says the driver sped through the stop sign around 6:30 p.m., hit the girl and dragged her down the street.

“You couldn’t really tell if she was alright. She looked like she was conscious and everything, but she looked real bad,” said Brown.

Witnesses said the girl was wearing a helmet but had a head injury. They said she was conscious but appeared very dazed.

Witnesses said the driver apparently didn't see the girl and initially left the scene but returned to find out if the girl was ok before leaving again.

The girl's father arrived to get his daughter's bicycle.

"I'm holding up good. I think people need to stand up for the responsibilities of what they do wrong," he said before heading to the hospital.

Police are looking for a white Chrysler 300. They haven’t released a description of the driver.

Anyone with information about this case should call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
