PORTSMOUTH -- Michael Ecklin faces a murder charge for the death of 21-year-old Jalisa Knight
Thursday, a grand jury returned the indictment against Ecklin, 26, who already was in the Hampton Roads Regional Jail on unrelated charges.
"God is gonna handle him. The system's gonna handle him," said Renita Boyd, Knight's sister. "It's been really, really hard, and we're just taking it day by day and keep praying, and we're just getting stronger and stronger by the day. She'll never be forgotten."
On May 14th, 2011, Jalisa Knight was found shot to death in the London Oaks neighborhood of Portsmouth. Police found her in her white Acura in the 1100 block of Mt. Vernon Ave.
Ecklin, whose address is listed as the 1100 block of Mr. Vernon, was indicted for murder and weapons charges. Police say he also faces two attempted robbery charged related to incidents involving other victims prior to the shooting of Jalisa Knight.
After Knight's death in 2011, friends and family held a candlelight vigil to remember the 21-year-old victim.
About 80 people who knew her hugged, cried and sang songs across the street from the place she lived in the Lake Edward section of Virginia Beach.
