PORTSMOUTH-- A robbery and a shooting in roughly the same area kept police busy Wednesday afternoon.
The two incidents, which happened about the same time, appeared to be unrelated, according to Jan Clark of the Portsmouth Police Department.
Around 5:14 p.m. police were called to a robbery at the Family Thrift Mart in the 3900 block of Town Point Rd.
Moments later, police received calls about gunshots in the area of 3800 Georgia Court and the 3800 block of Twin Pines Road which is not far from the thrift store.
The suspect in the thrift store robbery ran to the area of Twin Pines Road and Town Point. Road.
At about the same time, a victim of the shooting incident went to the area of the Gettymart located near the intersection of Town Point Road and Twin Pines Road which is also near the Family Thrift Mart.
Because of the shooting victim's and robbery suspect's respective paths, police were delayed in determining what actually happened.
Police say the robbery suspect entered the thrift store and implied he had a weapon.
After taking an undisclosed amount of money he left the store.
He was captured a short time later near Twin Pines and Town Point Rd. and is currently in custody. Charges are pending.
Police also discovered two male gunshot victims from the shooting incident at 3800 Georgia Court. The shooting is unrelated to the robbery.
One victim went to the Gettymart and the other stayed at 3800 Georgia Court.
After police made contact with both victims, one of them was transported to Maryview Hospital and the other to Sentara Norfolk General. Both are expected to recover.
The details and motive for the shooting are unknown.
Both unrelated incidents are still under investigation.
