PORTSMOUTH-If you live in Portsmouth and need to get your vehicle out of the snow, you can park for free at several downtown parking garages.

Pull in to the County Street garage, Harbor Court garage, Middle Street garage and/or Water Street garage and park in any open space EXCEPT ones marked 24-hour reserved, Harbor Tower, Police Department or Sheriff's Department.

Officials say you can park for free and get your vehicle out once streets and garages are safe to drive on.

As the snow comes, Portsmouth reminds residents that city crews will first work to clear bridges and primary roads, followed by city buildings and garages and then secondary (neighborhood) roads.

Crews ask that you not park on the road in front of your home if you can avoid it to make it easier for snow plows and trucks to clear the areas.
