PORTSMOUTH -- A Portsmouth man was beaten in the head by two men who were trying to rob him, police said.

According to Portsmouth Police spokeswoman Misty Holley, a 37 year-old male said he was walking in the 3600 block of Elliott Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 when two black men tried to rob him and then hit him in the head several times with an unknown weapon.

Officers responded to the location and found the male with lacerations to his head.

Holley says the suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction of travel.   Police believe the suspects involved in this case were inside the 7-11 in the 3500 block of Deep Creek Boulevard just prior to the incident.

The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
