VIRGINIA BEACH--Police have arrested a man charging him with the attempted robbery of a Taco Bell on July 19th.

Michael Anthony Richardson, 47, of the 4700 block of W. High Street in Portsmouth has been charged with a single count of attempt robbery

According to police, officers responded to the robbery at the Taco Bell at 3708 Virginia Beach Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. .

Police say the suspect approached the counter and demanded money from the counter attendant. The suspect implied he had a weapon and the attendant backed away from the counter and ran to the back of the store.

The suspect left the store without obtaining any money.

Through their investigation, detectives learned Portsmouth Police Department had a suspect in custody on unrelated robberies and believed the description matched the robbery suspect.

Richardson is being held in the Portsmouth jail.
