PORTSMOUTH--Police released a new picture Wednesday of one of the two men they say are impersonating police officers in the city.

The new picture is a surveillance photograph from a SunTrust Bank, ATM camera.  It was taken on October 5th after an elderly victim drove the suspect to the bank to withdraw funds.

Portsmouth Detectives are working with Norfolk Police, Newport News Police, Hampton Police, Petersburg Police and the Albemarle County Sheriffs Office after the same two suspects convinced elderly victims to withdraw money from their bank accounts in those jurisdictions.

The suspects have displayed law enforcement badges in most of the incidents.  In at least one incident they identified themselves as bank employees.

The story involved in the scam differs slightly in each case, but ultimately the victim is persuaded to withdraw large sums of money and turn it over to the suspects.

On several occasions the suspects were seen getting into a gray or silver Mercedes Benz, which displayed North Carolina license plates.  Police say they need the assistance of the public to identify the suspects and are asking anyone with information to call the Crimeline at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
