PORTSMOUTH-- The Virginian Pilot is reporting that former Portsmouth Mayor James Holley III is in intensive care following a medical emergency at a political fundraiser Saturday.
The paper says that Portsmouth Sheriff Bill Watson said Holley appeared to have had a stroke.
Holley, 85, is at DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk after being transferred from Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, according to the Pilot.
Watson noticed the former mayor slumped in a chair at the fundraiser, the paper reports. When Holley could not feel one of his arms, Watson called 911.
It was not clear Tuesday night what condition the former mayor was in at the hospital.
