PORTSMOUTH -- A man had to be medevaced from a tanker ship overnight after experiencing chest pains.

A crew member on board the 576 foot Pennsylvania contacted the Coast Guard shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The tanker was about 20 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina when the crew member needed medical attention.

A crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City was called to assist. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was used to fly the man back to the air station.

The 54-year-old man was then transported to Albermarle Hospital in Elizabeth City.
