PORTSMOUTH--Charges have been filed against a woman who was shot early Wednesday morning in Portsmouth.
Police say prior to being shot, 21-year-old Crystal Marie Griffin along with two other people allegedly assaulted somebody on Jefferson Street. The others implicated in the assault were 20 year-old Briijya Ashley Brockington and 25-year-old LeShawn Lee Harris.
Police say Brockington and Harris drove Griffin to Sentara Norfolk General for treatment, and the shooting may have been retaliation for the earlier assault.
While investigating the shooting, police recovered a light colored SUV registered to Griffin. Police say there is evidence linking the vehicle and all three suspects to a robbery in the 2700 block of Bagley Street on May 7.
Police believe the suspects were in Griffin's light colored SUV and took money while pointing a handgun at a 44-year-old victim. The man said one of the females assaulted him and he was treated for bruising and swelling to the head.
Griffin, Brockington, and Harris are charged with robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Police say based on similarities in two additional cases, the suspects may be facing more charges.
Griffin remains in the hospital, her condition is unknown. Harris and Brockington are wanted by police.
