PORTSMOUTH--Some excitement for people in part of Churchland Tuesday...courtesy of a black bear.

Someone spotted the bear about 50-feet off  the ground.    It settled in on the crook of a tree behind homes on Pleasant Woods Court.     That's off Twin pines road near "Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve."

Portsmouth police came to check things out. Because of how high off the ground the bear was...and the weather...officers made the decision to leave it there.
