PORTSMOUTH -- Students at three schools in Portsmouth are being told to stay inside as crews work to repair a gas leak, police tell WVEC.com.

Columbia Gas officials said a 6" line was damaged around 9 a.m. on Cedar Lane near West Norfolk Road.

"Our personnel are on site working to shut down the flow of natural gas and make necessary repairs to the damaged line. We do not anticipate that any customers will be without service," said spokesman Robert C. Innes.

Police say the leak is a result of a possible ruptured line and Innes says one repairs are made, crews will investigate how the leak occurred.

The three schools in that area are Sweethaven Christian Academy, Churchland Elementary and a private preschool.
