UPDATE 12/11:  Portsmouth police say they've shifted their investigation from a suspicious death to suicide investigation.

PORTSMOUTH -- Police are working to determine how a man’s burning body ended up at a baseball field behind Willet Hall Sunday morning.

Officers said just before 9 a.m., someone called 911 after seeing the burning man near the Wilson Little League's concession stand in the 3600 block of Willet Drive.

"Upon arriving they found a male unresponsive," said Detective Misty Holley. "They pronounced him deceased at the scene, and we're currently still investigating."

Police consider the death suspicious and have not determined whether it was the result of foul play.

With many questions left unanswered, some neighbors and little league players are left feeling uneasy.

"I mean, just now it’s kind of sketchy, walking up to the field when you know somebody just the night before got caught on fire,” said Austin Faulkner, a little league player.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with  information that could help Portsmouth police detectives should call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
