PORTSMOUTH - Two of Portsmouth's finest four-footed officers are retiring as two new K-9s prepare for duty.

Police K9s Joe and Tim spent eight years fighting crime with their human partners and now will retire to their homes.

Also during Wednesday afternoon's ceremony, two new K9s will officially join the force. Eli and Gunner will work with their Officer Handlers to catch criminals, disarm suspects and search buildings. The dogs graduated from the Basic Patrol K9 Academy with the Virginia Police Working Dog Association.

The ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. at Safety Town at 4404 Deep Creek Blvd.
