HRSD repairs are expected to continue through next week.
PORTSMOUTH -- A sewer leak caused quite a mess in Portsmouth Friday night.
Crews responded to the leak at the intersection of Effingham Street and Firehouse Lane around 4:15 p.m., according to Nancy Munnikhuysen with the Hampton Roads Sanitation District.
Witnesses say the street began to buckle shortly after the incident was reported.
Effingham Street, between London Boulevard and North Street, has been shut down as crews work to repair the leak.
Trucks have been mobilized for a pump and haul operation at area pump stations to ensure sewer service is not interrupted, Munnikhuysen said.
It is unclear what caused the leak. An investigation is now underway.
