NORFOLK -- Bank of America recently donated $5,000 to Norfolk-based non-profit, Nauticus, to help fund the Sail Nauticus Academy.

The program provides STEM education, as well as swim instruction and water safety, to at-risk local youth.

“Bank of America is proud to partner with the Sail Nauticus Academy to help students at-risk of failing or dropping out of school develop life skills such as teamwork, self-confidence and leadership,” said Charlie Henderson, Hampton Roads market president, Bank of America. “Supporting non-profit organizations, such as Nauticus, that connect our community’s young people to the educational tools and resources needed for future success is a priority for our company.”

The Sail Nauticus Academy, which began in June 2013, is an after-school initiative hosted by maritime-themed science center and museum, Nauticus. It aims to expose students from the Norfolk Public School system to a learning environment outside of the traditional classroom setting, providing safe and affordable access to the water.
