Ophelia post office
WAYNESBORO -- One of this year's Norfolk Botanical Garden eagles was found injured on the Northern Neck Thursday night.
NX was found at 10:45 p.m. in the middle of the road near the Ophelia post office and was picked up by a deputy from the sheriff’s office.
She's due to return to The Wildlife Center of Virginia, where she spent several months following the untimely death of her mother.
"The preliminary report from the permitted rehabilitator is that NX has a wing droop and blood in her mouth, but is otherwise feisty and is in good weight and physical condition," Center spokesman Randy Huwa told WVEC.com.
It's unclear how she was injured, which veterinarians art the Center will work to determine.
NX was one of three eaglets removed from their nest to the Center in April, shortly after their mother was killed by an airplane.
In July, the three were released at Berkley Plantation, but NX didn't fly far, landing in the brush. A veterinarian determined she was overstressed, so she was recovered and returned to the Center until her release at the end of August.
The Center's Website has a page that's been tracking NX's movements since her release.
