NORFOLK -- The guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf will depart Naval Station Norfolk Wednesday, June 25 on a seven-month deployment to the 6th Fleet area of operations.
While there, Leyte Gulf and Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron Light 48 Detachment 1 will integrate with multinational forces in support of NATO maritime security operations in which they will conduct military operations, international military engagement, and interagency partnering.
In February 2011, Leyte Gulf was involved in an incident with Somali pirates.
