CHESAPEAKE--Members of the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the construction of the Third Crossing Thursday.
The resolution identifies the Third Crossing as the preferred alternative over any expansion of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.
It would take advantage of existing funding and the Monitor Merrimack Bridge Tunnel to build a faster link between the Peninsula and southside Hampton Roads.
The city of Norfolk in a statement applauded the action.
“For decades the City of Norfolk together with the region has supported the Third Crossing as the best alternative for relieving congestion across Hampton Roads,” said Mayor Paul Fraim. “Today’s action reaffirms the region’s support of the Third Crossing and provides hundreds of Willoughby residents who faced losing their homes piece of mind while protecting our wetlands and parks.”
