CHESAPEAKE-- Chesapeake officials cited TME Enterprises for misdemeanor illegal dumping, according to fire officials.

TME is the company contracted by VDOT to do road maintenance on area highways, including patching the potholes on I-264.

Capt. Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said on Feb. 15, investigators found what appeared to be road debris illegally dumped on property owned by VDOT but leased by TME Enterprises, Inc.

Last week, Chesapeake officials went to a site in the 3900 block of S. Military Highway after Norfolk Fire investigators say they found TME illegally dumping at a similar site in their city.

On Feb. 13, the Virginian-Pilot reported that a fire marshal charged TME Enterprises with polluting stormwater and illegally dumping solid waste in Norfolk.  Details of the charges weren't immediately available.

TME Enterprises President Matt Ehrenzeller said the company was trying to get more information on the charges from the city. He said the company also is doing its own investigation because it has strict policies regarding the environment.

A hearing for the Norfolk charges is set for March 19.
