NORFOLK -- A busy intersection in Norfolk was temporarily shut down after a suspicious device was discovered early Friday morning.

Authorities responded to the scene in the 100 block of East Main Street near Granby Street around 1 a.m., according to Norfolk police. When officers arrived on scene, they found what appeared to be a suitcase on the side of the road.

The Bomb Squad was called in to assist and the device was detonated a short time later.

The area has been deemed safe and the intersection has been reopened.
