NORFOLK - One of the Virginia Zoo's squirrel monkeys is a new mother.
The baby was spotted clinging to mother Marie's back last Saturday.
"The squirrel monkey family is one of our most popular exhibits, particularly with children," said Greg Bockheim, the Zoo's executive director. "And they've been prolific; this is our 18th squirrel monkey born here since 1967. A squirrel monkey birth is a sure sign that spring is on its way."
Marie had a baby at the end of last year.
Zoo officials say squirrel monkeys live about 15 years in the wild and about 20 years in zoos.
You can see the squirrel monkeys in the Exhibit Building at the zoo, which is on Granby Street.
