NORFOLK – Some voters in Hampton Roads will go to the polls in December to elect a state delegate.
The special election for the 89th District seat will be held December 18 and will fill the seat vacated by Kenny Alexander, who was elected to the state Senate on Sept. 4 and sworn in on Sept. 17.
"Having this special election on Dec. 18, 2012, will allow for the citizens of the 89th House District to have representation and give the new delegate time to prepare for the 2013 legislative session. This date will also give the State Board of Elections sufficient time to complete its certification process of the November election,” Gov. Bob McDonnell said in announcing the date.
The last day for filing as a candidate is 5:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.
