NORFOLK-The daughter of President George H.W. Bush will spend Tuesday afternoon reading to children on the carrier named for her father.

Dorothy Bush Koch, Capt. Andrew J. Loiselle, commanding officer of USS George H.W. Bush, and crewmembers will take part in the event.

Koch is co-chair of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which promotes parents and children learning and reading together.

Members of the ship’s crew and their children will participate in the reading event sponsored by both the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and the United Through Reading organization.

As the carrier prepares for an upcoming deployment, United Through Reading offers parents the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks to their children which eases the stress of separation, maintains positive emotional connections and cultivates a love of reading.
