NORFOLK-- Police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that happened at a convenience store near Sherwood Forest Elementary School earlier this week.

Alexic Tariq Russell was arrested in the 3700 block of Elliot Avenue in Portsmouth on Saturday.

On Wednesday morning just before 11 a.m., a man was shot at Tinee Giant convenience store, forcing a nearby school into lockdown for about 20 minutes.

That morning police began looking for Russell in connection to the shooting.

Russell is charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of Firearm, Possession of Firearm by Felon and Discharging a Firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.

Authorities say that the arrest was a joint effort from both the Norfolk Police Fugitive Unit and the Portsmouth Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
