NORFOLK -- Police say a woman was sexually assaulted near the ODU campus around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the the assault took place in an off-campus residence in the 1500 block of Longwood Drive. 

Police believe the intruder entered through an unlocked back door and fled the residence on foot.   

The suspect was last seen wearing a ski mask and dark clothing and is described as a black male, six feet tall and 180 pounds with a medium build.

The Old Dominion University Police encourages you to practice the following safety precautions:

  • Ensure your doors and windows are locked.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and for anyone in the neighborhood who may be watching you or a home in the area.
  • Immediately report suspicious individuals to the Old Dominion Police Department.
