NORFOLK--A piece of playground equipment at River Oaks Park was damaged from a small fire Monday afternoon.

Crews were called to the park in the 5300 block of Roslyn Drive around 2 p.m. and found a fire on the second story of a piece of playground equipment, said spokesman Capt. Mike Hicks.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, Hicks said.

The fire marshall's office determined discarded smoking materials caused the fire.

Hicks said nobody was injured and minimal damage was done to the equipment.
