NORFOLK-- State Police say a Va. Beach man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-264 west in Norfolk.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. between the Ballentine Blvd. and Brambleton Ave. exits.

Investigators say 24-year-old Charles Anthony Smalls was speeding, veered into a work zone and hit a traffic cone, which made him lose control and hit another car.  That impact sent his car into the Jersey wall and then it flipped several times, authorities added.

Smalls was ejected and died at the scene. A passenger in his car wasn't hurt and no one in the second vehicle was injured, according to police.

Traffic was re-routed off the Interstate for the investigation and all lanes reopened around 11:00 p.m.
