NORFOLK - The City of Norfolk will open several downtown parking garages for residents who live in flood-prone areas.

The following downtown garages will open Saturday at 6:30 p.m.: Boush Street, Freemason Street, York Street and MacArthur Center Garages North & South. Those garages will remain open until Monday morning or until the flood waters recede.

Old Dominion University parking garages C and D adjacent to Ted Constant Center and E next to the football stadium will open on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

Several city parking lots are available in higher-elevated areas. Those lots include Pretlow Library in Ocean View, Barron Black Library off Military Highway, Bayview Recreation Center, Larchmont Elementary, Ingleside Elementary, Campostella Elementary, Berkeley Multi-Service Center, Maury High School, Blair Middle School, Ghent School and Tarrallton Community Center and ATC/Blackhawk Company off Miller Store Road.

Some school parking lots are at a higher elevation and available for public parking: Little Creek Elementary, Larchmont Elementary, Ingleside Elementary, Campostella and Blair Middle School.

However, the city says anyone who parks there must be gone by the time schools open next week.

City officials stress that security will not be available at any parking lots so residents should lock their vehicles and keep valuables with them.
