NORFOLK (AP) -- A Norfolk man who accidentally shot and killed a friend while they played with guns will spend three years in prison.
18-year-old Kaleel Mayhan pleaded guilty earlier this year to involuntary manslaughter.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that Mayhan received a seven-year sentence Wednesday in Norfolk Circuit Court. Judge Everett A. Martin Jr. then suspended three years and six months of the term. Mayhan will receive credit for six months he already has spent in jail.
According to court records, Mayhan and 17-year-old Clifton Little Jr. were smoking marijuana and pointing guns at each other on Jan 12. Little was shot when Mayhan's gun accidentally discharged.
