NORFOLK-- One man is dead following a three-vehicle accident shortly after 2 a.m.

Virginia State Police say 39-year-old Shelton Copeland of Norfolk was trying to put gas in his disabled 1997 Chevy Tahoe on I-64 westbound, east of the I-264 interchange.

According to police, the Tahoe was on the right shoulder, partially in the roadway, when it was struck by a 2001 Chrysler minivan. The minivan then overturned in the road and was struck by a 2001 Chevy Silverado.

Copeland was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler, 41-year-old Charlotte Lane of Norfolk, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Silverado was treated at the scene.

Lane has been charged with driving on a suspended license, no insurance, and expired registration.

The investigation is ongoing.
