NORFOLK---The City of Norfolk wants to give one of its most heavily-traveled roads a reality check.

A meeting Tuesday night is the first step in what the city calls a long process to revise, re-energize and develop the Military Highway corridor frin U0264 to Va. Beach Blvd.

The Urban Land Institute of Hampton Roads toured the area in the Military Circle area Monday and members are analyzing data and conducting interviews ahead of the meeting.

The panel will deliver guidelines, which will allow developers to begin a dialogue with property owners and investment companies, the city said.

"The Military Highway corridor is extremely important to not only the city of Norfolk but the entire region," said Tara Saunders with the ODU Real Estate Foundation.

Officials say the retail base along the highway is already there, but it needs to have greater appeal to attract shoppers and businesses.
