NORFOLK-- When the ball drops at midnight, a local couple will be celebrating 40 years in business.
"We're starting our 40th year and it's Belle's birthday. We wanted to take it to the level where people say 'wow 40 years!’”
Dennis and Annabelle Doughty have owned and operated “The Banque” on Little Creek Rd. They’re planning a New Year’s Eve celebration bigger than ever before. Hats, noisemakers and party favors are being set for 350 reservations.
Back in 1972, the Doughty’s turned the 17,000 square foot open-air-grocery store into a nightclub. Their wall of fame shows everyone from Reba McIntyre and Shania Twain… to 13News Anchors Jim Kincaid and Joe Flanagan.
When Joe Flanagan came to town 33 years ago, he did his first story at the Banque with Kenny Rogers and Linda Ronstadt lookalikes. More recent stories include the year the city of Norfolk outlawed smoking in bars and restaurants. Dennis is a second hand smoke cancer survivor. Belle lost a brother who was a smoker.
They’ve come a long way in four decades. Monday night they’ll celebrate all things country. “And it's a lot of military, a lot of guys and gals that are from Texas and Oklahoma. All around the country and this is their home."
