NORFOLK— The Animal Care and Adoption center showed off its renovation Saturday.

"I think for a city shelter that's in a former truck repair garage, you have to see it to believe it.” Barbara Hayes said.

The center was paid for by a huge fundraising effort and a $10,000 gift from Faith Fellowship Church.
“It’s clean and it's friendly. It's healthy and comfortable for animals, and that's what we come here for everyday."   Hayes said.

Each year, about 7,000 animals are cared for at the Animal Care and Adoption center. Last year, the center surpassed its goal of 2012 adoptions.

There are lots of special touches to the shelter, like a mural with faces of animals that have stayed.  Another neat feature is the state of the art cat spaces.

"They were actually designed by our operation manager. We finalized them, and it took us a couple years. They have never been made anywhere before. They're gaining national recognition."
